It’s done! Today we proudly announce the 50 finalists who will be invited to CODE_n @ CeBIT. This year’s contest topic is ‘Driving the Data Revolution’. Big data is a megatrend, and the startup scene has been busy working on new ways to deal with the vast amounts of data we produce every day. This time we received more contest submissions than ever before: 450 applications from 60 countries. This being only the third year of CODE_n, we are very proud to see that our contest has received so much international attention. Today we share insights into the selection process, the industries represented by our startups, and the CODE_n hall at CeBIT.

Top 50 evaluation procedure

The CODE_n partners GFT Group and Ernst & Young (EY) jointly selected the 50 finalists. They applied several criteria in making their decisions, such as the degree of innovation, quality of the business case, quality of the presentation, and the technological innovation. Each partner provided experts who ranked the applications by these key indicators. An average ranking was then defined based on the results. The 50 startups with the highest ranking are now the CODE_n14 top 50 finalists.

International background

Startups from 16 countries made it to the finals. The countries with the most participants are Germany, the US and the UK. Brazil, the Netherlands, France, Israel, Bulgaria and Spain each sent several representative companies. Belgium, Estonia, Finland, Ireland, Canada, Luxemburg, and Hungary sent one candidate each.

Finalists showcase broad technological scope

Big data affects all sectors of business. That’s why we’ve focused on various solutions and sectors and divided our participants into different areas. Grouped by theme, it was interesting to see the final breakdown: Technology and IT solutions form a substantial core of participants with 32% of entries coming from this area. Since our partner, CeBIT, is focusing heavily on business topics, we’re proud to announce that 52% of our finalists will present vertical market solutions and 16% of them will present horizontal market solutions in marketing and sales.

CeBIT 2014

Hall 16 – it’s the place to be! We are located right at the heart of CeBIT with our CODE_n hall. Our partners and finalists will line 5,000 square meters of space, connecting with one another and showcasing their ideas and business models. The fair will take place from March 10 – 14, 2014, and the five days will be filled with an international conference program, evening events and live concerts. One of the highlights? Our CODE_n Award Show, scheduled for Wednesday, March 12, 2014, where the winner will receive €30,000 in prize money. Clemens Weisshaar and Reed Kram will put the hall in a special limelight with installations measuring twelve meters high and 240 meters long.

In the upcoming months, we will introduce you to our finalists more closely. Stay tuned!
