The Event

Jean-Remy von Matt, Germany’s most renowned storytelling expert in advertising, reads from his autobiography “At the End – Experiences from My Creative Life” and shares powerful insights into where and how creativity has made a decisive difference in his life.

Jean-Remy was born in 1952 in Brussels, grew up in Zurich, and has lived in Germany since 1975, now residing in Berlin. He spent nearly five decades as a creative in various advertising agencies. In 1991, he founded the agency Jung von Matt together with his partner Holger Jung. The agency quickly grew to become one of the largest independent agencies in Europe. For decades, it was considered the most creative agency in Germany and was named “Independent Agency of the Year” multiple times at the Cannes Lions.

In 2020, he began exploring conceptual art. Before long, his first exhibitions appeared in museums and galleries. His best-known works to date — widely discussed in numerous publications — are his lifetime installations, which make our transience visible and, in doing so, more consciously perceived. As early as 2002, Jean-Remy created a lifetime clock for himself. In 2022, he unveiled his first lifetime sculpture: the Carpe Vitam Clock.

As a creative mind, he is far more fascinated by the shapeable future than by the already completed past. Human life expectancy is one of his favorite topics.
