If, and When, to Move to Silicon Valley

Have you thought about moving your startup to Silicon Valley? Bob Warfield, who moved his successful Houston-based company to Silicon Valley, weighs in with his two cents. He believes that the quest for good developers and a techie (or non-techie) co-founder is not a good reason to move to Silicon Valley, since employable CS graduates can be found in just about any city.  The strongest reasons to move are to woo venture capitalists, gain (and maintain) reference accounts, and understand current industry trends. Warfield advises young hopefuls bootstrapping their first company to leave Silicon Valley, since the high living costs could kill startup efforts. He concludes by highlighting that VCs will be interested in you as long as you have a great product—and you don’t need Silicon Valley for that.
