WADI - Crowdfunding for clear water

09/20/2013  |  News | Trends

End of August our CODE_n13 finalist Helioz launched a crowdfunding project. Their innovative product WADI will help to improve lives of people in developing countries. The Austrian social enterprise raises the necessary funds to prove that millions of people around the world can be granted access to safe drinking water using only the power of the sun and a small device.

In India, 400,000 children under the age of 5 die as a result of waterborne diseases each year. Helioz wants to support an unprecedented scientific health impact study in India. The study aims at proving WADI’s effectiveness by verifying at least a 50% reduction of waterborne diseases by use of WADI.

To collect the necessary money to finance the study they decided to launch a crowdfunding campaign on the international platform indiegogo.com. Center of the campaign is their product WADI. It’s an UV-measurement device that tracks the progress of solar water disinfection in a PET-bottle. Simply attach WADI to a bottle filled with contaminated water, lay it in the sun and wait for the smiley face to appear on the device. Thanks to the power of the sun and its UV-rays and with WADI’s continuous measurement, you can be sure the water is safe to drink.

The campaign started end of August, anyone can join it  until 19 October 2013. Some of the CODE_n team already supported the campaign. It’s a good cause and being part of a mission to save 400,000 children is reason enough to support this project. See the transformative effect of WADI and be part of the solution for one of the biggest problems facing humanity – the water crisis.
