For everyone who likes good food, Karlsruhe offers various places to eat. These culinary offerings vary from down-to-earth places that offer regional specialties such as “Käsespätzle” (“Spätzle” noodles with cheese and roasted onions), “Maultaschen” (pasta squares filled with meat and/or vegetables) or “Schupfnudeln” (finger-shaped potato dumplings) to upscale cuisine and star restaurants. By the way: Vegans also have plenty of choice in Karlsruhe. There are many different vegan and vegan friendly restaurants, such as “My Heart Beats Vegan” or “Veg Veg”, which is why the city was just labelled as the most vegan friendly city with more than 250,000 citizens by Germany’s biggest animal rights organization PETA.

Moreover, Karlsruhe has a unique beer culture, with six breweries producing refreshingly delicious beer according to the German purity law. One of them is Hoepfner, one of the biggest breweries in Karlsruhe, which is located in a castle in the heart of the city center. If you don’t like beer, don’t worry: Karlsruhe has many cozy bars and pubs with cocktail happy hours and other special offers for every taste – for a fun night out with friends and new acquaintances. And in case you plan on spending all night drinking cocktails: At “Mauritius Karlsruhe”, which is right next to the city’s main station, there is always happy hour.

Aside from eating and drinking, Karlsruhe has to offer lots of other recreational activities: You can visit one of the city’s 22 theaters, watch a blockbuster or independent film at one of Karlsruhe’s four movie theaters (among which is the “Filmpalast am ZKM”, one of only four IMAX cinemas in Germany) or marvel at the “Schlosslichtspiele”, the spectacular light shows on the façade of Karlsruhe Palace. If you’re interested in a little more action, 3D black-light miniature golf, laser tag arenas and live escape games provide variety late into the evening.

Still don’t want to go to bed? Off you go into one of the city’s night clubs. Almost every day, they play all kinds of music – a perfect way to end your night out in Karlsruhe by dancing through the night. After that, just be sure to get back safely to your room – and to drink lots of water to be fit in the morning (for your next day at the CODE_n festival). 
